PRESS/MEDIA

The Ultimate Waterman’s media exposure has taken the beautiful shores of New Zealand - particularly those of the host region - to the world via media, social media and television. The event has thrust the Auckland and Southland regions, as well as other parts of New Zealand, well and truly into the global spotlight.

In the northern hemisphere winter of 2019/2020, the event is moving to the beautiful and dangerous waters around Maui in the Hawaiian Islands. Some of the most iconic stretches of coastline in Hawaii will form the backdrop for event – from the big wave action at Pe’ahi (Jaws) to the peeling and tubing waves of Honolua Bay. Maui will be the perfect location for the next instalment of The Ultimate Waterman, with endless opportunities to capture diverse and exciting world-class content both in and out of the water.

Maui’s waters will provide the most grueling test yet for the world’s greatest waterman. The winners of this ultimate challenge will truly deserve to be crowned The Ultimate Waterman and The Ultimate Waterwoman.

The Ultimate Waterman is a totally unique competition with strong appeal to broadcast markets all over the world, inspired by the event’s powerful components of skill, strength and spirit.

Since the inaugural The Ultimate Waterman (TUW) champion was crowned in 2015, millions of people around the world have tuned into Red Bull TV to watch this compelling contest unfold: firstly as a one-hour TV documentary in 2015, then as three half-hour TV shows in 2016 and five 10-minute shows in 2017.

Surfing fans were able to watch the event free of charge through livestream online platforms or through mobile devices via the TUW app. Globally it was distributed through 17 different digital devices (including Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, Kindle Fire, Roku, Xbox 360 and smart TVs), reaching 37 countries and a global audience of almost 1.3 billion people.
